Summer House

.:: Heads and Tails ::.
Over the past 2 years I have been playing with various textiles and working mostly with organza and voile, mixing with inlays of silk and satin hybrids.

Church windows: These kites carry an organza tail and loosely represent gothic church windows. 800mm high x 550mm wide with 6M tail

Hokusai Wave: This kite is a homage to the great Japanese woodblock printer Hokusai and represents The Great Wave, which is one from a series of his 36 views of Mt. Fuji. 800mm high x 575mm wide with 6M tail

Fish: The Angel fish and the Tropical fish carry silver or grey organza tails to represent flowing water over their bodies. Angel Fish are 1.2M wide x 600 high with 1.5M tail. Tropical fish are 1.1M high x 900 wide with 3M tail.

Sode: The Sode is a traditional Japanese kite and this is a modernist version using contempory materials, i.e. organza tails and modern textile inlays. Sodes are 800mm x 800mm with 6M tail
These kites fly beautifully in a range of winds from light to medium and are best seen in clear skies where the sun reflects on the stunning flowing tails.

.:: Sode Silk ::.
Following last years great acceptance of the integrated fabric Sode, I have done the same head in black but this time used a synthetic silk inlay, oriental in design, to match the origin of the head. It flies in lower winds than last year’s sode, due to the relative non porosity of the inlay. [last year’s was using a burnt out velvet, stunning to look at, but needed 5 knots of wind to get off the ground]
